The Background

SkillVault offers professional certification courses in Data Analytics, Digital Marketing, and Product Management — priced between ₹15,000 and ₹40,000. They had a solid Google Search presence but were stuck at a ceiling of around 180 enrollments per month, and could not break through it despite their existing ad investment.

The core challenge was something we see consistently in high-ticket EdTech: someone deciding to spend ₹30,000 on a certification course needs 7 to 12 meaningful touchpoints before they are ready to enroll. SkillVault's ad strategy was treating it like an e-commerce transaction — ad clicks going straight to a course page with an "Enroll Now" button. The funnel had one step. For a ₹30,000 commitment, one step is never enough.

What Was Broken

  • Single-step funnel — ad to course page to "Enroll Now" — with no lead capture and no nurture sequence in between
  • No YouTube or video advertising — missing the most effective channel for course discovery in India
  • High bounce rate on course pages (74%) — because the ad copy was promising something different from what the landing page delivered
  • Weekend campaign scheduling was switched off — but the data showed most course research happens on Sunday evenings
  • Alumni success stories and course preview videos existed on the website — but were never used in the advertising

The Strategy

Building a Proper Three-Stage Funnel

We rebuilt the entire approach around the reality of how someone makes a high-ticket course purchase decision. Three distinct stages, each with a specific job to do.

Stage 1 (Awareness): YouTube In-Stream ads — 90-second "Day in the Life of a Data Analyst" videos. The goal at this stage was not conversions. It was views, engagement, and planting the aspiration. We specifically did not ask people to enroll. We asked them to imagine.

Stage 2 (Consideration): Google Search and Display retargeting — targeting people who had watched more than 50% of the YouTube videos. The offer shifted from "Enroll Now" to "Download Free Syllabus" or "Reserve Your Free Demo Class." Low-commitment entry points designed for people who were interested but not yet ready.

Stage 3 (Conversion): A WhatsApp-integrated Lead Form followed by a counsellor call. No direct "Buy Now" push. Instead, the WhatsApp opt-in triggered a seven-day nurture sequence — testimonials, FAQs, EMI options, and instructor introductions — followed by a counsellor call within two hours of the lead being captured.

YouTube Campaign Setup

We created four video assets built around the existing content SkillVault already had but was not using: a student success story (which became by far the most effective format), a course preview, a "Why Digital Marketing in 2026" explainer, and an instructor introduction video.

Targeting combined in-market audiences for online education with custom intent audiences built from people who had recently searched "digital marketing course," "data analytics certification India," or similar high-intent queries. YouTube Skippable In-Stream delivered views at ₹0.40 to ₹0.80 per view — a fraction of the cost of Google Search CPCs for the same audience.

Lead Magnet and WhatsApp Funnel

We replaced "Enroll Now" as the primary call-to-action with a Free Masterclass offer. The conversion rate on the new CTA was four times higher than the direct enrollment CTA — because it asked for less commitment at the moment of first contact.

After the masterclass, a WhatsApp opt-in triggered the nurture sequence. The counsellor call within two hours of lead capture improved show-up rates from 28% to 61%. That single operational change — faster response, better timing — accounted for a significant portion of the enrollment improvement.

Scheduling and Budget Shifts

We increased bids by 40% on Sunday evenings between 6PM and 11PM — when the data showed course research activity peaked. We shifted 30% of the Search budget to YouTube — reaching a larger qualified audience at a lower cost per view than equivalent Search CPCs.

Key Takeaway: High-ticket EdTech is a trust sale, not a click sale. The moment SkillVault stopped trying to force an impulse purchase and started building a relationship funnel — free class, WhatsApp nurture, counsellor call — the economics completely changed. YouTube was the hidden weapon. At ₹0.52 per view, they were reaching qualified learners at a fraction of Search CPCs. The awareness built there made the retargeting convert at three times the rate of cold traffic.
